Caldonazzo

Caldonazzo is situated along the Valsugana (a long valley not far from Levico Terme), laying on a picturesque plain, the village is surrounded by fields, orchards and woods. The town is surrounded by the Brenta hills, by the Rive mountain, Cimone mountain, by the Pizzo di Levico, and by the Mandriolo mountain.

Caldonazzo’s roots are historical, in ancient times one of the great ways of the Roman Empire, the Claudia Augusta Antinate, conducted across the valley from Feltre to Trento.The left slope of the valley contains the southern offshoots of the Dolomites, meanwhile on the right side the Alpes begin to rise with their plateaus and the deep gorges and valleys.

The local administration and of the near village Beseno, are held in a unique administration, and for many centuries it was known as the Magnifica Corte di Caldonazzo (Great Court).Held by a noble family, the Trapp earls, the family has reigned and lived in an ancient castle for more than five centuries. To appreciate also, San Sisto parish church, (San Sisto) patron of the village.

Lake Caldonazzo is the thing the town is deeply pride, and not only because the lake has the same name of the town. From some time on, the lake has become a touristic attraction, the climate is enjoyable all year round and the activities that can be done are many.

The lake is the biggest belonging entirely to the Trentino region. It measures 4.735 meters in length, 1.870 meters in width and it has an average depth of 27 meters.On its shores there are several wild beaches likewise equipped bathhouses, also available for children.There are four yacht clubs that hold competitions, some of international scale.On the lake can be practiced canoeing, rowing, sailing, windsurf and water skiing.

All year round there are several aquatic competitions, including those organized and featuring the students of Trento University.Not to forget, fishing, which allows you to catch: trouts, carps, rudd, tench.This activity at its peak attracts a large number of fishermen. Thanks to the mild climate is possible to bathe from the month of June to September.

The strategical position of the small town is the base for other sport activities. For instance trekking in the woods or in the meadows nearby, or perhaps visiting the numerous apple orchards. Another example is to go riding with the mountain bike along the surrounding valleys. Last but not least, there s the chance to reach easily the ski facilities towards Monte Panarotta or Calceranica.
